Living Buddha Lian-sheng Sheng-yen Lu Dharma Talk - Yeshe Tsogyal Background and Key Cultivation Formula】
Great Perfection Dharma (the ninth-stage of the nine-level Nyingma School practices) was transmitted from Samantabhadra Tathagata to Buddhas of Five Directions, Vajrasattva, Vajrapani, Prahevajra, Manjushrimitra, Shri Singha, to Padmasambhava who transmitted the Dharma into Tibet to King Trisong Detsen and Yeshe Tsogyal.

The three Tibetan patriarchs of the Great Perfection are Vairocana, Trisong Detsen, and Yeshe Tsogyal.
''Om-ah-hum, be-dza, gu-ru, beh-ma, sid-dhi, hum, seh'' is Padmasambhava's mantra. ''Om, ye-she-tsog-yal, man-da-ra-va. so-ha.'' is the mantra of Padmasambhava's two consorts, Yeshe Tsogyal and Mandarava. They are his cultivation partners and are called consorts.

King Trisong Detsen gave his most favorite concubine to his guru as an offering. Several of King Trisong's concubines with high level spiritual ability followed Padmasambhava to learn Buddhadharma. Yeshe Tsogyal was the most outstanding of these highly capable concubines, and it was Yeshe Tsogyal who was offered to Padmasambhava by King Trisong.

Shri Singha divided The Nine-stage Great Perfection into outer tantra, inner tantra, secret tantra, and innermost tantra. Shri Singha discussed two Nyingtik. One is the Khandro Nyingtik, the Heart Essence of the Dakinis, which is the Dharma Padmasambhava transmitted to Yeshe Tsogyal. Nyingtik means the most important key cultivation formula, also referred to as Heart Essence.

Yeshe Tsogyal was a terton, a revealer of sacred spiritual texts. Padmasambhava entrusted Yeshe Tsogyal to hide all the sacred texts of the Heart Essence of the Dakinis and the secret key cultivation formulas of the Nine-stage Great Perfection. When King Langdharma began to persecute and suppress Buddhism, Yeshe Tsogyal sensed that Buddhism was facing imminent destruction in Tibet. She therefore concealed all the Great Perfection teachings transmitted by Padmasambhava in various places around Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan. She hid the teachings inside rocks and boulders, in empty space, at the bottom of lakes, and within giant trees. Ultimately, two Venerables, Longchenpa and Jigme Lingpa, were the foremost tertons. They gathered all the hidden texts together and transformed them into the Nine-stage Great Perfection. In addition, Longchenpa consolidated the Great Perfection into the Longchen Nyingthig.

Yeshe Tsogyal attained accomplishment through cultivation of the eight great practices of Vajrakilaya. Afterwards, she used the method of concealment to protect and preserve the teachings of Padmasambhava. Yeshe Tsogyal is revered as a Buddha Mother by both the Nyingma and Kagyu Sects of Tibetan Buddhism. In the Nyingma Sect, she is considered the lineage holder of the Heart Essence of the Dakinis and an emanation of Vajravarahi. Vajravarahi is below Prajnaparamita Buddha Mother, and Yeshe Tsogyal is below Vajravarahi. Yeshe Tsogyal can also emanate as Vajravarahi. Yeshe Tsogyal and Mandarava are Buddha Mother emanations.

One may see Yeshe Tsogyal as a patriarch, but as for all her transformations, she was Sadaprarudita, the Ever-weeping Bodhisattva. Yeshe Tsogyal was also Vajrayogini, Goddess Ganga in the era of Shakyamuni Buddha, and the Goddess Sarasvati before Goddess Ganga. In a previous life, she was also seven-eyed White Tara.

One should not view Yeshe Tsogyal as merely the consort of Padmasambhava or a patriarch, because her background is actually quite formidable. Just from her being White Tara, Vajrayogini, Ganga, Sarasvati, and Sadaprarudita Bodhisattva, one can see her emanation body, Dharma body and enjoyment body. There is also the fourth body, the truth body, which is namely a dharma-nature body. Every deity has many identities.

Yeshe Tsogyal was also the enjoyment body of Amitabha Buddha.
Yeshe Tsogyal stated in her teachings that Padmasambhava opened her channels and chakras which enabled her to see the mandala, not the outer mandala (it was not the worldly mandala that assembled), but rather the inner mandala.

It was her guru who blessed Yeshe Tsogyal and enabled her to see the mandala within her own body, which was the manifestation of four types of supermundane body mandalas.

When I, Living Buddha Lian-sheng, first began studying Vajrayana, I had the greatest respect for Padmasambhava. I prepared abundant offerings and supplicated Padmasambhava. Both Padmasambhava and Yeshe Tsogyal appeared to me in meditation. Padmasambhava swallowed the Dharma King, and I was expelled from his body through the secret chakra.

Padmasambhava said:
''You are my son.''
The Dharma King said:
''I am willing to accept the responsibility.''
I then received the brilliant light blessing of Padmasambhava and Yeshe Tsogyal Buddha Mother.

This blessing is ''profound lineage''.
