【Dragon-riding White Jambhala Dharmalakṣaṇa Brief Introduction】
White Jambhala is depicted with a white body, one face, two arms, three eyes, and red hair. He wears a small Five-buddha Crown. Short and strong with a big belly, he rides a green dragon. He holds a khatvanga in his right arm, a wish-fulfilling staff in his right hand, and either a cloth sack or treasure in his left hand. He is surrounded by the four dakinis of east, south, west, and north. Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, who is his origin, is above him.
The key visualization point falls at making the water offering. When making the water offering, one must visualize the water offered transforming into a green dragon. Then, visualize the green dragon showering White Jambhala by spewing water on him from space.
【Living Buddha Lian-shengSheng-yen Lu Precious Dharma Discourse - Dragon-riding White Jambhala Cultivation Merits and Key Formula】
In the cultivation of White Jambhala Practice, one sets up an altar on a circular table. A silver plate is placed in the center of the table. White Jambhala is positioned in the center of the silver plate. Surrounding the statue are seven cups of bathing water. A pyramid shaped crystal is placed between each cup. The key point of the offering is that there are two white and three sweet offerings; these offerings are milk, stir-fried flour, white sugar, rock sugar, and honey sugar. The offerings to White Jambhala are positioned in a circle around the round offering table. The primary color of the shrine should be white.
Everyone may feel it's strange to use crystals as an offering to White Jambhala. Why are crystals used? At the beginning of my discourse on White Jambhala Practice, I was thinking about why the color white is used in the White Jambhala Practice. Everyone knows that crystals come in many different colors. White Jambhala resides in a palace made of crystal, that is, he lives in a crystal palace. To nurture spiritual union with White Jambhala, one may offer white pyramid shaped crystals which represent a crystal palace. Dragon-riding White Jambhala of the Snow Mountain resides in a palace made of crystal. Offering crystal pagodas on the shrine table makes White Jambhala extremely happy because he feels like he is returning to his own home.
We know that Yellow Jambhala is the northern Vaisravana and that he resides in a crystal palace located in the northern part of Mt. Sumeru. White Jambhala also resides in a crystal palace. This palace is called Snow Mountain Crystal Palace. White Jambhala's body is entirely white. One uses a pyramid shaped crystal because it represents White Jambhala's crystal palace.
Crystals have an unusual magnetic quality. I have previously mentioned that crystals are magnetic. If one puts one's hand on top of a crystal, one can feel a kind of magnetic force. A crystal is the crystallization of earth, that is, it's a kind of essence of earth. A crystal has very strong magnetism as well as a charismatic power to influence emotions.
Strangely, if one meditates in the center of an Egyptian pharaoh's pyramid, one will feel a kind of power entering and absorbing into one's body. One's meditation will then be extremely deep. People cultivate with crystals because crystals are the essence of earth.
Regarding the Jambhala practices, I think the bathing dharma of Dragon-riding White Jambhala is an outstanding practice. The essential element of cultivation is putting one's heart into it. When one puts heartfelt effort into one's practice, one will receive a spiritual response. If the response is yogic, then it is a spiritual union. When one attains spiritual union with Jambhala, one's cultivation is called ''yoga'' which means ''spiritual union.'' Spiritual union gives rise to dharma power, that is, it produces dharma power.
Today we cultivated White Jambhala Practice. As regards the Jambhalas, spiritual union with White Jambhala is even better than the others. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with cultivating Yellow Jambhala or Red Jambhala… Actually, every Jambhala has extraordinary features. I feel that the remarkable feature of White Jambhala is transcendent, really transcendent.
